Direct about cost. Most major insurance accepted.
Therapy should not be a financial puzzle. Out-of-pocket is $125 per 50 minutes session. For most clients on insurance the actual cost is a small copay or nothing.
The short version
- Out-of-pocket: $125 per session.
- BadgerCare and Wisconsin Medicaid are accepted.
- Medicare is accepted.
- Most major commercial insurance in Wisconsin is in-network.
- Free 15 minutes consult before any session is booked. Text, call, or email - whichever is easiest.
Insurance currently accepted
The list below is the most current set of insurers I am credentialed with. Verify your specific plan's mental-health benefits before the first session. If it gets confusing, tell me and I will help.
If you are paying privately
The session rate is $125. Sessions are 50 minutes. I accept card or HSA/FSA. Many clients choose private pay specifically to keep therapy off insurance records; that is a reasonable choice and we can talk about whether it makes sense for you.
If you are using insurance
Most clients pay either nothing or a small copay per visit, depending on their plan. To confirm before the first session, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask for the mental-health or behavioral-health benefits department. Useful questions to ask:
- Is outpatient mental health a covered benefit on my plan?
- What is my copay or coinsurance for an office visit or telehealth visit with a licensed counselor?
- Do I have a deductible I need to meet first, and how much of it has been met this year?
- Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor?
- Is Amber Miller, LPC, in-network with my plan?
If any of that comes back confusing or contradictory, that is normal and not your fault. Forward the answers to me and we will sort it out together.
If you do not have insurance and the rate is hard
Tell me at the consult. Wisconsin has a number of low-cost and sliding-scale options, and depending on your situation BadgerCare may be available to you. I would rather help you find a workable path than have cost be the reason we never get to a first session.
About the No Surprises Act and Good Faith Estimates
Federal law gives uninsured and self-pay clients the right to receive a written estimate of the expected cost of services. If that applies to you, I will provide one at or before the first session. If the final cost is more than $400 above the estimate, you can dispute it through the federal No Surprises Help Desk.
