Telehealth, anywhere in Wisconsin.
Most clients I see now meet by video from home, the dorm, or wherever they have a quiet 50 minutes. It is not a downgrade from in-person work. For a lot of people it turns out to be the version that works.
How telehealth works in this practice
You receive a video-session link before each meeting. You click the link at the scheduled time, on a phone, tablet, or computer. The session is 50 minutes, same as in person. No app to install on most browsers.
What you need on your end
- A quiet space where you will not be interrupted.
- A device with a camera and microphone.
- A reasonably stable internet connection. Wi-Fi is fine; mobile data also works in most cases.
- Headphones, if you live with other people.
Where in Wisconsin
Wisconsin licensure law means I can see clients located physically in Wisconsin at the time of the session. That covers from home, a college dorm or apartment, a workplace office with a closed door, or a parked car (yes, this is common). If you travel out of state for an extended stretch, we pause until you are back in Wisconsin.
If you are at a college in Wisconsin
Telehealth from a dorm or apartment is by far the most common way I see students. UW system, private colleges, technical colleges, tribal colleges, all the same in terms of how it works. We pick a regular time slot, usually late afternoon or evening, and we keep that slot semester to semester. The full angle on this is on the college student page.
If you are near Duluth, Minnesota
Wisconsin licensure means I cannot see you by telehealth while you are physically in Minnesota. The good news: my Superior office is a short drive across the bridge from anywhere in Duluth-Superior. Most Twin Ports clients come in person.
Privacy
Sessions are conducted via a HIPAA-compliant video platform. Sessions are not recorded. Standard confidentiality applies; the same legal exceptions apply that would apply in person.
When in-person is the better fit
Some clients prefer the structure of a physical room. Some kinds of trauma work are easier in person. If you are in the Twin Ports area and want in-person, the Superior office is available. We can also mix and match: some weeks in person, some weeks by video.
